Past & Present Projects

The following is a sample of past projects that demonstrates the breadth of experience within NEXUS:

  • Conducted a socio-economic assessment of the long-term impacts on supply chain and evaluated benefits of Transport Canada’s protections measures on the North Atlantic Right Whale and Southern Resident Killer Whale.
  • Prepared stakeholder and Indigenous engagement guidelines for Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Federal Contaminated Sites Action Plan Secretariat.
  • Provided expert and advisory services to Fisher’s Associations by reviewing Northern Pulp’s Environmental Assessment for their proposed effluent treatment system.
  • Compiled data and developed an infographic socio-economic profile of the Eastern Shore, Nova Scotia to identify potential opportunities and barriers to local communities from the establishment of a Marine Protected Area.
  • Provided technical support on data and information management and livelihood assessment for Eastern Caribbean flyingfish fishery;
  • Designed and implemented a traditional knowledge study for Baffin Island communities in Nunavut;
  • Worked with rural Atlantic communities to provide guidance for the selection of adaptation strategies to climate change;
  • Researched and assessed the social, political and environmental climate to prepare community engagement activity strategies;
  • Worked with First Nation communities throughout Atlantic Canada to design and negotiate Food Social and Ceremonial Fisheries Management Plans and Livelihood Fisheries Management Plans;
  • Worked with the Government of Nunavut on socio-economic market analysis and certification and traceability of the sealing sector in Nunavut;
  • Engaged stakeholders of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador for Canada- Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board and Canada- Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board regulatory review;
  • Designed and conducted Indigenous Knowledge Studies for Nova Scotia renewable energy projects;
  • Engaged Indigenous communities and local stakeholders of Nunavut for National Energy Board regulatory review; and,
  • Worked with Inuit organizations and communities to conduct an assessment of narwhal for revised management plans.
